GIRLS TRAVEL PROGRAM
Travel Tryouts
We encourage all players to make as many tryouts as they can to maximize time in front of the evaluators
DYLax has discretion to “pull up” a player who may have been overlooked in tryouts
We may also not move any players after rosters are announced
5th & 6th - Travel: 5th and 6th Grade Girls will have the option to try out for a Travel Team. There are two commitments we expect of travel players: 1) to honor your commitment to your House team, and 2) lacrosse must be your priority sport during the Spring season. Please read the Travel Commitment below. There will be one or two practices/games during the week and additional sessions on the weekends. The travel season ends in mid-June.
7th & 8th - Travel:
DYLax fields six travel teams for 7th and 8th graders: 8A, 8B, 7A, 7B and two 7/8 seniors teams geared for those girls who choose to not make the same commitiment as those players on the A or B team but still want to play in a fun and competitive environment. Travel team placement is based upon the 3 "A's": Attitude, Aptitude and Attendance. DYLax expects that if you play on an A or B team, you will make DYL travel lacrosse your PRIORITY this spring. DYLax reserves the option to move players when deemed appropriate. Please read the Travel Commitment Language at the end of this page. Practice (and some games) will be held on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Players who do not attend tryouts will autmatically be rostered on a 7/8 seniors team. Away games will be also be scheduled. The travel season ends in mid-June.
7th & 8th Seniors - Travel:
This combined team of 7th and 8th grade girls is geared for those that don't wish to make the commitment to travel because of other obligations, but still want to play in a fun and competitive environment. The girls practice twice a week, and have travel games on the weekend. The big difference is you do not have to commit to all of the practices or games. Additionally tryouts are not necessary, and cuts are not made. It is a great way to keep playing the game you love without the full time commitment.
Blue Wave Buddies 8th Grade Commitment On Saturday after practice or games, all 8th graders are expected to stay to help coach the Blue Wave Buddies from 5-6pm
Travel Commitment Policy
All players selected for A or B travel teams must agree to make lacrosse their PRIORITY for the entire course of the season. Given the number of highly qualified players we have at each grade level, it is not fair to have roster spots go to players who are less than 100% committed to lacrosse in the spring. We expect and encourage all of our athletes to play other sports during the rest of the year, as it increases athletic development and adds to players’ enthusiasm for all sports they play. But we require that during our relatively short season, you choose lacrosse over other event conflicts. If you are not prepared to make lacrosse your priority, we offer our house program for 5th and 6th graders or 7th/8th Senior Teams where players can develop their skills but where there is flexibility regarding attendance.
NOTE - IF YOU ARE TRYING OUT FOR TRAVEL SOFTBALL, THEN YOU SHOULD NOT TRYOUT FOR TRAVEL LACROSSE (We would expect it to be the same vice versa).
5th - 8th grade A and B travel players are required to attend:
- All practices and games for their assigned team
- All house games and clinics (5/6th grade only)
Excused Absences* include: mandatory school events, religious observances
Unexcused Absences include: play practice, dance practice, music practice, other sports, select team practices/games/tournaments (including lacrosse, soccer, field hockey, crew, swimming, etc).
Punishments for Unexcused Absences:
1 missed practice or game = Sit ½ game
2 missed practice or game = Sit full game
3 missed practice or game = Loss of Roster Spot
*If a player anticipates missing for an excused absence then the player should make coaches aware as soon as possible.
Communication
Players should communicate directly with their coaches, including concerns or questions regarding playing time, positions, team placement
Exceptions for health issues such as allergies, asthma, ADD/ADHD, diabetes, etc., which parents should communicate directly with coaches if they choose
All health issues will be kept strictly confidential
If parents have issues with a coach, they should contact the girls’ house or travel coordinator, after observing the 24 hour waiting period
